Navigate the best bars, clubs, and entertainment venues across Downtown, West Hollywood, and Hollywood
From historic speakeasies to legendary music venues, discover what makes each district unique
Downtown LA has undergone a massive transformation in recent years, evolving from a business district into a thriving nightlife destination. The Arts District, in particular, has become the epicenter of LA's craft cocktail scene, with converted warehouses housing speakeasies, rooftop bars, and innovative restaurants. The area around Spring Street and Broadway features historic buildings repurposed into modern bars and clubs. From The Varnish's hidden entrance to The Edison's industrial grandeur, Downtown offers a sophisticated nightlife experience. The neighborhood is also home to numerous breweries, wine bars, and late-night eateries, making it perfect for an extended night out.
West Hollywood, particularly the legendary Sunset Strip, represents the glamorous heart of LA nightlife. This iconic stretch of Sunset Boulevard has been the playground of rock stars and celebrities since the 1960s. Today, it's home to world-famous venues like The Roxy, Whisky a Go Go, and The Viper Room, alongside upscale lounges and rooftop bars. The area offers everything from intimate jazz clubs to massive dance clubs, with a strong LGBTQ+ scene centered around Santa Monica Boulevard. WeHo's nightlife is sophisticated yet accessible, with a perfect mix of historic venues and modern hotspots. The neighborhood's walkability makes it ideal for bar hopping.
Hollywood proper offers a more eclectic and tourist-friendly nightlife experience, centered around Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street. While it can be touristy, the area has seen a renaissance with new cocktail bars, nightclubs, and entertainment venues opening alongside historic landmarks. The neighborhood features everything from dive bars to upscale lounges, with many venues offering views of the Hollywood Hills. The area around Cahuenga Boulevard has become particularly popular, with a concentration of bars and clubs catering to a younger crowd. Hollywood's nightlife tends to be more energetic and less pretentious than West Hollywood, with a strong emphasis on dancing and live entertainment.

Arts DistrictLocal
Downtown LA's bar scene is seriously underrated. The Varnish is my favorite speakeasy in the city - you have to go through Cole's to find it, and the cocktails are worth the hunt. The whole Arts District area has amazing spots now. Way better than the Hollywood tourist traps.

Sunset Strip never gets old. I've been going to The Roxy and Whisky a Go Go for years and they still have the best live music in LA. The Roger Room is perfect for a classy cocktail before hitting the clubs. WeHo has something for everyone.

The Edison is such a unique venue - it's in an actual old power plant and the decor is insane. Gets crowded on weekends but worth it for the atmosphere. Downtown has really stepped up its nightlife game in the past few years.

No Vacancy in Hollywood is hands down the coolest bar I've been to in LA. It's a Victorian mansion with different themed rooms and a secret entrance. Feels like you're in a movie. Make a reservation though, it fills up fast.

Clifton's is wild - it's like a tiki bar meets a forest meets old LA history. Multiple floors, each with a different vibe. Can be a bit overwhelming but it's definitely an experience you can't get anywhere else. Very LA.

West Hollywood is where it's at for a proper night out. Great mix of bars, clubs, and lounges all within walking distance. The LGBTQ+ scene is amazing and welcoming. Plus you can actually find parking unlike Hollywood Boulevard.
